Emissions & U.S. Compliance

Permitting a roaster in the U.S. is mostly about smoke. Here is how we help you pass.

Most U.S. roasteries above ~1 kg need some form of emissions control to satisfy their local air-quality district and fire code. Yoshan supplies the abatement equipment matched to your roaster and your jurisdiction.

Afterburner vs. ESP — Which Do You Need?

Thermal Afterburner ESP Smoke Filter
How it works Combusts smoke/VOCs at 200–1,000°C Electrostatically captures 95%+ particulate
Best for Strict VOC/odor districts (e.g. CA AQMDs) Particulate limits, residential-adjacent
Running cost Higher (burns gas) Lower (electric)
Roaster size 1 kg – 300 kg 1 kg – 300 kg

What U.S. Permitting Usually Involves

  • Local air district permit — many districts require an afterburner or equivalent above a roast-capacity threshold
  • NFPA 86 — fire code for ovens/furnaces; covers gas trains, purge and safety interlocks
  • Mechanical / ventilation permit — exhaust ducting and make-up air
  • Gas connection — NG meter upsize or propane tank sizing

We are a manufacturer, not a permitting consultant — but we have shipped to 30+ countries and will configure the burner, gas train and abatement so your local mechanical engineer has what they need. Tell us your city and we’ll advise on the right setup.
